perspective

it's easy to forget that your baby is growing up. and it's especially difficult to gauge height with a child who can't stand, so i think i often miss E's changes or take them for granted. but these 2 photos were taken a year apart almost to the day (the left from Novemeber 2009, the right from this November). it really is amazing to look at how much she's changed and grown. her face has lost her toddler softness and taken on its striking angles. her arms have grown strong and muscular, and she's sporting an adorable buddha belly that she didn't come home with. i guess what is even more spectacular is how much she has thrived in this new environment- how she's embraced what has been given to her without losing sight of where she came from. i hope we can always keep that alive in her. i suspect it won't take much work, as she speaks so fondly of those she loved in China to this day. how much i look forward to the time we can return to the country of her birth.

  1. Yep..she's growing up. Although I would have been utterly SHOCKED if any child had not grown & absolutely FLOURISHED under the watchful eyes & heart full love of you & G. You are both EXCELLENT parents, as I knew you would be all along.

  8. She's beautiful on the outside and it sounds like she's even more beautiful on the inside! I think it's such an incredible blessing that she remembers her time in China and is so full of love for those that she remembers there. Truly something special!

  9. She is beautiful! I had noticed those gorgeous strong arms in a couple of recent pics - I think she has the makings of an athlete. She might play basketball - those gals have great shoulders! I know for sure that whatever she does in life, she will fly because she has your unwavering support. You guys are such a cool family.

  10. Don't blink...at least that is what I try to do...too fast, too true.

I need more time every step of the parenting way.

    Sigh... for both of us.

  11. Wow, those two pics really show the huge changes.

Ro and Ree talk about going back to China all the time. They've wanted to go for the last year and we keep telling them we like to wait until they're a little older. Wanna hook up in China in 2012? :-)
