today, she asked to walk

so, baba made that happen :O)

(i should clarify for those that commented, there was a time we believed
with bracing from hip to feet, special walkers, etc that she may walk.
after 3 P.T. evals and months in therapy, it was determined
that in fact she won't walk, due to a multitude of factors
with her legs/hips/feet. we are working on creating a "stander" for her
that she can actually kneel on - with back support- so she
can function at her actual height- it's a huge work in progress. she
has trouble standing even in a stander- the contractures in
her feet are significant. what i do know is- walking or not-
there is nothing that will stop this brilliant, vibrant little girl
i get to call my daughter- she's got a wealth of determination
and just the right attitude!).

  2. Oh, man! I was totally willing that foot to move, for her to push off with the left, etc. When I realized I was tensing and straining my body, as I watched...I realized how much I love watching kids (any kid, all kids) excel, succeed, learn and grow. It is all such a miracle. Good job, Miss Ellis...!

  8. 'Freedom Master' indeed! What a wonderful gift for a father to give his daughter: the belief that anything is possible, and that he will always be there to hold her as much as she needs. What a beautiful Father's Day.

  22. She is just SO darn cute! Do you mind if I ask: if she will eventually be able to "kneel" on her stander, how will she be full height? Either way, weight bearing is weight bearing and it's good for her bones! If none of my business, I fully understand...but the OT in me gets curious, LOL!

  24. sharon-
to answer your question. we are modifying her stander that we have tried to use at P.T. but it isn't working because of the hip dislocations, and how contracted her feet are (when she is in the stander, her left foot flexes up almost to a 90 degree angle, so she's putting all her weight on to her ankle, and her right foot turns in so she's standing on the lateral edge of it). we decided to modify the stander into a kneeler, the kneeling surface will be a bit higher (where her knees really are) with a cushion, so kneeling, she'll be at her actual height.

    hope that makes sense.
