you want some ice too mama?

i'm often a bit dumbfounded by how much E's temperament and likes/dislikes mirror my own. and most were present pretty much from those first weeks together, so it isn't like she learned this from me, you know?

ones that stand out right now: she is totally content to play on her own. i was the same. she's cuddly and affectionate. she whines. i was such a whiner. i didn't melt down or tantrum, just whined. she's identical. her shyness, her quiet nature (until she gets to know you)- again, that's me. and her dad too.

and now? well, she loves ice as much as i do- so much in fact you can bargain with it like it's candy.

i know. bad habit. but come on! we get our way so often!

  1. Both of my boys are adopted from Korea and my youngest is so me it is really not funny. He is very quick witted but has not learned that I "kinged" the last word many many years ago:)
I love this pic of E looking up at you. She has beautiful eyes!!

  4. Ice cubes not such a bad vice. Mine?? How about drinking a pound of Starbucks Breakfast Blend each week? Expensive and bad for my urinary system ...but I'm a total addict (and always needing extra steam to keep on keepin' on!). Viv's vice: Orajel toothpaste. I have caught her twice hiding in her closet with an empty tube!! ;-) (Usually, it's out of reach for her but occasionally, I fall asleep with it on the nightstand and Little Miss Sneaky comes and gets it in the AM!)

  5. So uncanny. I love how this happens. We tease how those 'matchers' had/have such amazing 'matching skills'. . . we couldn't have chosen more perfectly.

  6. It's funny how that works, isn't it? Just yesterday my mom was commenting about how much D is like so many of us in the family. He has the same auricle pits that I have (ok, you'll just have to look it up, it's too hard to explain), same sense of humor and maniacal giggle, the same horrible allergy to bug bites. The list goes on and on and I find it odd how much we are like each other and how we arrived here together in this place.

  8. My daughter is so much like me as a child, she's a little shy, artistic, a Daddy's girl and also quite sensitive. Our rambuncious 4 year old son is also very much like his Dad as a little boy. It's pretty wild how this all works and quite wonderful!

  10. Thank you so much for letting me be here!!!

My two younger daughters from China are exactly like me in almost every way. The oldest is not, which has made her feel like an "alien" in our family in some ways. I don't think we will ever see eye-to-eye on many things, and it mades me sad.

  11. I love it when this turns out this way! Such a beautiful fit. And I love(d) ice too!!!! But after four crowns...I have had to cut back. I used to write poems as a child and one of the lines of something I wrote my dad lives on in 'family lore'.....my dad's really nice, though he hates when I chew ice....Ha ha. I even read that poem in its entirety at his funeral :)

And I think someone commented about E's eyes...they are indeed BEAUTIFUL!!!

  12. I, too, often wonder what "ancient Chinese secret" those matchmakers use in selecting our children for us- because so often their personalities and traits so perfectly mirror our own. Sometimes I think I look too hard for the sameness, and other times it presents itself when I am definitely least expecting it! :>) And this is also a huge delight to my parents who remind me all the time that my daughter is SO like me.

I love the new site, and thank you for allowing me to follow along.

  13. while i will never argue the matchmaker magic, ellis was not matched to us- not sure if that makes it more or less uncanny... but it is fascinating to me!

  14. Thanks for inviting us along! I have always been shocked at how many of my traits the Princess Petunia possesses. (Including the love of ice!) The initial shyness, the total motor-mouth after that, the carb-addiction, the bossiness, it's all there! I don't know how it happens but somehow these girls just become so totally ours!

  15. Ice is my vice too, and BOTH my kids love it too... My 4 year old walks around with a tumbler full of ice chips. I guess some things are just meant to be :-)

  17. Ice as a bargaining chip, CUTE, its fun when its the little simple things that delight them, isn't it? As for the rest, how wonderful that she is so you, one more lovely bond.

  18. That's awesome. My daughter also LOVES ice. Crazy about it. Almost as crazy as she is about strawberries. I had the (brilliant?) idea this morning to freeze half strawberries for a little treat for her and give them to her frozen. Not sure how it will work out but I have a feeling she'll love it.

  19. My little Narelle has the same fondness for ice. It started as an aid to sooth her gums when she was teething, but it is a firm favorite now.
