a new park, and only a mile away...and made just for kids like her!
i don't know what prompted Freedom Master (aka G) to search for adaptive parks on-line, but whadya know, he found one within walking distance of our humble little house. and she was pretty thrilled, though as you can see E pretty much prefers to be out of her chair and was thrilled to have all that support (including some to lean on with that left leg) in order to "stand"! that was her biggest cheekiest grin ever. i wish i could tell you she was using her legs for it but truthfully that's almost 90% upper body strength holding her up! girl is strong!
and are you diggin' that swing as much as WE are?? she thought it was the bomb.
the only downfall was the sand. uhm. sand? for people who can't walk? no no no. this is not the best option. but we'll take what we can get and we are not about to complain. at least not until we get home and are dumping it out of her socks and undies.

That is AWESOME!!!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, THAT.... is awesome.
ReplyDeleteThis gave a big smile this AM. THIS is how it should be. So glad that somebody gets that (minus the sand!).
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, what a find! I love the swing so much, and the "jumping" photo...pure glee. You know, I bet the park department would welcome feedback re: sand, too...they went through the trouble of making such a place exist, I bet they'd want to make it just right.
ReplyDeleteI just adore that sweet face.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!

Wow! How cool is that? The smiles on her face say it all!
ReplyDeleteI agree, let the parks dept know what a preferred ground covering would be......But man...what an AWESOME find!!! I love that it is so close too.......
ReplyDeleteWhat a find (even with the sand)!!! and what a happy smile...:)
ReplyDeleteHer smile melts me into a big puddle!
ReplyDeleteFabulous park and I can see why she thought that swing was 'the bomb'! Brilliant!
It made me smile too!

WOW!! What an awesome find!
ReplyDeleteThe district school I teach at in the summer (the extended year program for special ed) has an adaptive park just like that one. It is pure bliss for the kids. I love every second they are out there just "playin"
... it has a much better ground cover though. you actually have to go up a ramp into the park because it is 5in of hard rubber on top of recycled tires. It is the weirdest feeling the first time you step on it. It's almost like floating. But perfect for wheelchairs, walking and accidental falls! Best thing the township ever put money into!
Have fun!! Those are some pretty priceless photos of your girls happy grin! LOVE IT!
aw, that is just great, the park, not the sand!

We had a service group here do a park like this with the wheelchair swing and a few other swings that were supportive of larger kids that needed back support. Unfortunately, even with signs saying who the swings were for, other kids played on them and broke them. After the second time replacing a broken wheelchair swing, they just put something else up that kids still play on even though they are perfectly able to use the "regular" swings. Breaks my heart that children in wheelchairs that might be too heavy to lift into a swing will never feel the wind on their face!
ReplyDeleteSo glad E. has this park nearby. Maybe y'all can have a fundraiser to buy the rubber type bark. They have it at the park nearby and it is all glued in so it is like a big rubber mat. So nice and cleaner than sand or bark.
E is so beautiful inside and out!

ReplyDeleteThat is great that you found a park that will meet your girl's needs. She sure looks like she's enjoying herself there.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous big smile :) Amazing you have such facilities so close - you'd look a long time before you'd find something like that here (actually you would not find it!)
ReplyDelete...to the "mr. mom tune"...DAD IS GREAT!! What a great park!
ReplyDeleteE is getting SO BIG...and so beautiful. These pictures make me feel sad in that I haven't been there to see her...and especially all her TX cousins!
THIS MUST CHANGE...sooner than later. :)
That swing shot is just pure joy and bliss!! Loving that park!

ReplyDeleteAwesome! The smile on her face says it all!
ReplyDeleteWow - never knew there were adaptive parks - can commiserate about the sand. Happy you found this special treat so close to home.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful park to find!! Maybe you can contact your city and ask about changing the sand to some of that rubber stuff? Could be they've just never thought of it. I know mommy's with strollers would be happier too.
ReplyDeleteSO happy your strong Miss E has this wonderful place to play so close to home!
FANTASTIC!!! And from the look of E's smiles, she thinks so too! What a BEAUTY your girl is!!! That smile...OH THAT SMILE!
